Use Permit - Sprint - 2015Staff Report • February 10, 2015 PLN2014-315 Public Hearing to consider the application of Gabriella Barr, on behalf of Barr, Gabriella Sprint, for a Conditional Use Permit to allow for the installation of six new (Sprint) panel antennas on an existing PG&E transmission tower, two ground level equipment cabinets, and supporting equipment at 701 Creekside Way, in a PF/OS (Public Facilities/Open Space) Zoning District. STAFF RECOMMENDATION That the Planning Commission take the following action: 1. Adopt a Resolution, to allow for the installation of six new panel antennas on an existing PG&E transmission tower, two ground level equipment cabinets, and supporting equipment subject to the attached conditions of approval. ENVIRONMENTAL DETERMINATION Staff recommends that the Planning Commission find this project Categorically Exempt under Section 15303, Class 3 of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pertaining to the construction of new small facilities and structures. DISCUSSION Back rg_ound: The subject PG&E transmission tower currently serves as a telecommunications facility for Verizon Wireless (PLN2009-69). Verizon's facility is comprised of six antennas mounted at the top of the 97-foot high tower, in addition to an 11 ~/~ foot tall equipment shelter located at the base of the transmission tower, surrounded by a 6-foot chain link fence on all sides. Project Site: The project site is the PG&E substation (reference Attachment 1 -Location Map), located along the west side of Creekside Way, north of Campisi Way. The property site is adjacent to a vacant lot (future Creekside Offices) and the Courtyard Marriot to the north, Los Gatos Creek to the south, Highway 17 to the west, and the Hamilton Plaza Legacy Office buildings across Creekside Way to the east. Applicant's Proposal: The applicant is requesting a Conditional Use Permit to allow for the installation of six new panel antennas on an existing PG&E transmission tower, two ground level equipment cabinets, and supporting equipment at 701 Creekside Way. The proposed facility is intended to provide better coverage and faster data service to Sprint wireless customers.
