Application: Tree Removal Permit
Dear Ms. Bartholomew,
Thank you for your August 17, 2011 submittal of a Tree Removal Permit application. Based
upon a review of the application materials, this application has been deemed incomplete. In
order to properly review the tree removal request, the following additional information is needed:
1) Grounds for Removal: As it appears now, based on observation of the tree and review of
the arborist report, the current condition of the tree is not a major issue nor is it
potentially damaging to any buildings or creating an economic hardship. Please clearly
demonstrate that the tree qualifies for removal based on one of the three criteria outlined
below:
• Diseased or danger of falling. The tree or trees are irreparably diseased or presents a danger of falling
that cannot be controlled or remedied through reasonable preservation andior preventative procedures
and practices such that the public health or safety requires its removal.
^ Potential damage. The tree or trees can potentially cause substantial damage to existing or proposed
main buildings (e.g., dwellings or other main buildings) or interfere with utility services and cannot be
controlled or remedied through reasonable relocation or modification of the structure or utility
services.
(Please note that damage or potential damage to hardscape surfaces, fencing, or to accesso~~-
buildings, does not satisf ~ this criteria for removal as those elements are not defined as "n2arn
buildings.
^ Economic enjoyment and hardship. The retention of the tree(s) restricts the economic enjoyment of the
properly or creates an unusual hardship for the property owner by severely limiting the use of the
property in a manner not typically experienced by owners of similarly zoned and situated properties,
and the applicant has demonstrated to the satisfaction of the approval authority that there are no
reasonable alternatives to preserve the tree(s). A minor reduction of the potential number of residential
units or building size due to the tree location does not represent a severe limit of the economic
enjoyment of the property.

2) Tree Replanting Plan: A replanting plan is required for all tree removal applications.
Please include a site plan that demonstrates the proposed location of a replacement tree,
and the type/species of tree that you would like to use to replace the existing tree.
