Our arborist has suggested a Brisbane Box tree and he is trying o find one from his supplier in a 36-inch box. Please let me know if the Brisbane Box tree is acceptable. We anticipate having the tree planted sometime during the week of 9/9. Thank you again. Our Municipal Code is quite specific about the sizes of required replacement trees based on the sizes of the removed trees. We do have this ability to approve a greater number of replacements in a smaller size, but we wouldn't ever approves something smaller than a 24-inch box tree based on what's specified in the ordinance. So 15- gallon trees would not work for our replacement requirement. Staff would be willing to accept two 24-inch box sized trees (non-fruit bearing species) in lieu of one 36- inch bo;< sized tree. Of course you can plant four trees if you wish, but we would require at least two. Italian Cypress trees could work well in the space you have available because of their narrow form, as you mentioned. You may want to check with your arborist and see if they can get Italian Cypress trees in a 24-inch box size. If that works, send me an email confirming what you will plant and I'll approve it and adcl it to the file. An arborist has been to my property and because of the small space available for planting suggested that perhaps the City would consider letting us plant four (4) 15-inch Italian Cypress Trees rather than one (1) 36-inch tree. These trees have an upright growth habit and would not hang over the fence on the neighbor's property nor would they block our sidewalk. Your consideration of this alternative plan would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
