PLN2013-132 Public Hearing to consider the application of Ashley Woods, on behalf of
Woods, Ashley Verizon, for a Conditional Use Permit (PLN2013-132) to allow for the
(Verizon) establishment of a new roof mounted telecommunications facility, extended
building parapet wall, and ancillary supporting equipment at 1600 W.
Campbell Avenue, in a C-1 (Neighborhood Commercial) Zoning District.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
That the Planning Commission take the following action:
Adopt a Resolution, incorporating the attached findings, .approving a Conditional Use
Permit (PLN2013-132) to allow the establishment of a new roof mounted
telecommunications facility, extended building parapet wall, and ancillary supporting
equipment subject to the attached conditions of approval.
ENVIRONMENTAL DETERMINATION
Staff recommends that the Planning Commission find this project Categorically Exempt under
Section 15303, Class 3 of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pertaining to the
construction of new small facilities and structures.
DISCUSSION
Project Site: The project site is the roof and surrounding grounds of the Big Five Sporting
Goods building located in the Kirkwood Plaza Shopping Center which is located on the south
side of Campbell Avenue, west of San Tomas Aquino Road and east of Fulton Street (reference
Attachment 1, Location Map).. The Kirkwood Plaza Shopping Center is developed with a
combination of one and two-story multi-tenant office and retail commercial buildings.
Applicant's Proposal: The applicant is seeking approval of a Conditional Use Permit to allow for
the establishment of a new roof mounted telecommunications facility, extended building parapet
wall, and ancillary supporting equipment including aground-mounted generator.
The proposed facility is intended to provide better coverage and faster data service to Verizon
Wireless customers.
