The Planning Division has conditionally approved your Sign Permit application (PLN2016-
349) for construction of (2) 40 square foot wall signs reading "Steak `N Shake / By Biglari"
and (1) projecting sign reading "Steak `N Shake /Famous for .Steakburgers" at the above
referenced property. The Planning Division finds the sign, as conditioned below, is consistent
with the requirements and design standards of Campbell Municipal Code Section 21.30.080.A.
This Sign Permit has been approved subject to the following Conditions of Approval:
1. The applicant shall obtain any necessary building.permits from the Building Division prior
to sign installation.
2. The signage shall be fabricated and installed per the project plans, dated as received on
November 30, 2016.
3. The approved signage shall be maintained in good condition at all times and shall be
repaired or replaced as necessary.

Dear Applicant:
The Planning Division has reviewed the October 28, 2016 sign plans for a Sign Permit
(PLN2016-349) for two wall signs and one projecting sign located at 501 E. Campbell Ave.
Based on a review of the application materials and the Lloyd Square Master Sign Program,
your application has been deemed incomplete. The following issues need to be addressed in
order to continue processing the application:
1. Sign Area:
a. The Master Sign Program defines sign area as the square footage of signage
determined by measuring the area of a sign panel or, for individual letters, by
enclosing the Tenant Identity in a polygon of no more than eight continuous line
segments. Indicate the square footage of the proposed sign and demonstrate how
the measurement is made in compliance with this definition of sign area.
b. The Master Sign Program allows one square foot of signage per lineal foot of
frontage, up to 50 square feet. Indicate the frontage lengths of each side of the
building where a wall sign is proposed and demonstrate that each sign does not
exceed the allowable area.
2. Sign Size: The Master Sign Program includes the requirement that a tenant name shall
not exceed 70% of the fascia height or 70% of the leased business frontage length.
Indicate the fascia heights and demonstrate the sign size does not exceed the allowable
length or height.
3. Secondary Letters: The Master Sign Program does not include a provision for the
secondary lettering proposed ("By Biglari"). Two lines of text are allowed but they

must be consistent with the LED Halo Lit /Channel Letter Section and other criteria for
Major Tenant Wall Signs.
4. Channel Letter Depth: The Master Sign Program indicates the channel letter depth shall
be 5 inches. Revise the proposed 6 inch depth to comply with this requirement.
