NEW BUSINESS
1. 231 ' E. Campbell Ave (George and Lena Campbell Rodeck , House): The HPB
reviewed the plans to remodel the interior of the Darling -Fischer Mortuary, add a
small addition to the rear to accommodate an accessible bathroom, add a new
window to the second story (west elevation), add a gable (north) and mechanical
equipment screen to the. roof (north, west and east) of a non -historic rear addition,
replace/move an exterior stairwell (north and west) forbetter, access to the rear of
the building, and add anew gable over the new stairway landing (north elevation).
HPB member Blake asked if the. old cement retaining wall on the west side of the
property would be repaired. She also asked if the landscaping would be updated.
The applicant replied yes to both questions.
'HPB member Kendall asked if the applicant would be willing to redesign the
equipment screen by the stairwell to look like a balustrade. The applicanf replied that
a balustrade wouldn't properly screen the equipment as required by code. The
applicant also wants to keep the design simple and provide some continuity with the
historic building. Chair Walter commented that the design of the screen should be
kept simple so as not to take attention away from the historic building but the design
could achieve a balustrade look with thicker supports. The applicant replied that he
could design the screen with reveal space to achieve a shadow effect. The HPB was
satisfied with this approach.
2. May is National Historic Preservation Month: HPB member Blake informed the
HPB that the City Council would proclaim . May as National Historic Preservation
Month at the May 15t" Council meeting. HPB member Blake will set up the display,
case in the Council lobby with information and artifacts from the Peralta Adobe
building. A ceremony, led by Judge Bernal, is scheduled for the Peralta Adobe
building on. May 9th at John D. Morgan Parka
3. Update Tree Survey. HPB member Blake proposed that three trees (two Oaks at
864-866 Briarwood Dr. and a Cedar at 815-823 Union Ave) be added to the Tree
Survey (not the Heritage Tree Inventory).
HPB member Blake made a motion to approve adding the trees to the Tree Survey.
HPB member Moore seconded. Motion Passed 5-0-0
4. Potential List: HPB member Blake has identified two possible additions to the City's
Eligible Resource list (306 Curtner Ave and 251 Curtner Ave). All five HPB members
