NEW BUSINESS 1. 1126 Steinway: Informational Only: The applicant is proposing an addition to the
existing home, which is listed on the City's "potential list" of properties. Chair Blake
explained that there are no historic preservation restrictions on the home because it
is on the potential list, not the HRI. Members of the HPB expressed appreciation that the owner is preserving the front of the home. The HPB also informed the applicant that incentives may be available if the home is preserved and formally designated on
the HRI; however the owner indicated he was not interested in being on the HRI.
OLD BUSINESS 1. Brochure: The HPB reviewed the latest draft and noted that it may need to be
updated following approval of the new Historic Preservation ordinance (e.g., who
can nominate a structure for designation).
2. Historic Preservation Mobile application: Staff informed the HPB that the City is recruiting for an intern to work on the mobile app. Staff will introduce the HPB to the
intern when he or she is hired.
3. Historic Preservation Ordinance (Chapter 21.33): The HPB reviewed the latest draft of the Historic Preservation ordinance and suggested the following changes: add language to the definition of architectural questionnaire indicating that it is used
to determine eligibility for designation; include a definition for the designation review
criteria that is discussed in section 21.33.06B; add language to section 21.33.050
that the HPB shall complete the architectural questionnaire; add back in the language that allows the Planning Commission and other commissions the ability to nominate a resource for designation; record a deed restriction against all historic
resources (including structures of merit); and add language to section 21.33.180 that
indicates who is responsible for preparing each of the historic resource documents.
