height of 44 feet to be located at the north-
west corner of lscom and Campbell Avenues in
e C-2-S Zoning District. (Prune Yard identi-
fication sign).
Chairman Grim asked Mr. Kee for his comments.
Mr. Kee presented a layout of the sign. He stated the two reasons
for bringing it to the Commission were that the sign is in excess
of the 35 foot height limit that staff can approve and the
ordinance provides that the Commission may approve a height in
excess of the 35 feet. He stated the reader board would indicate
the location of businesses located in the Prune Yard. She signs
now on Campbell Avenue that are in violation would be removed.
He further advised other signs in the city have been approved in
excess of the 35 foot limitation.
Following discussion, Commissioner Scottnoved that the identifi-
cation sign for the Prune Yard be approved with a height of 44 feet.
Said sign to be located at the northwest corner of Bascom and
Campbell Avenues in a C-2-S Zoning District.
Motion seconded by Commissioner Pack and unanimously adopted.

sign with a height of 44 feet to be located at
the northwest corner of Bascom and Campbell Avenues
in a C-2-S Zoning District. (Prune Yard Identification
Sign)
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Approval
STAFF DISCUSSION
The sign ordinance provides that the maximum height of a sign
that may be approved by staff is 35 feet. The ordinance further
provides however that the Commission may approve a height in
excess of the 35 feet.
In the staff's opinion the sign proposed is not inappropriate
in relition to area of the site and the height of the nearby
Towers office building. Ia addition, other shopping center
sign; have been approved in excess of 35 feet. Two examples
are the Safeway sign. in Campbell Plaza and the Kirkwood Plaza
sign.
