Commissioner Howard reported that Mr. Robert Silva and Ms. Barbari M..Fee met with the Site and Architectural Review Committee, and are requesting approval of an additional .rail sign above a proposed automatic teller machine. This application is being referred to the Commission because the current signage on this site exceeds that permitted by the present sign regulations. The Site Committee is recommending approval of an ° sq.ft. directional sign with the business name removed, and lettering reduced to T' in height. Mr. Robert Silva, 1998 S. Bascom Ave., Manager of California Savings F, Loan, spoke in favor of the proposed directional signage, indicating that the sign does not face either Campbell or Bascom Avenues. STAFF RECMVE41ATION Approval, subject to the reduction of the sign area to 6 sq.ft. and the applicant securing any necessary building permits. STAFF DISCUSSION The applicant is requesting approval of an additional mall sign above a proposed automatic teller machine. The proposed sign measures approxi- mately 8 sq.ft. The current Savings f, Loan operation has a free-standing sign with two panels measuring 120 sq.ft. and a sign height of 30 ft. There are, additionally, tun smaller wall -mounted signs. This application is being referred to the Planning Commission because the current signage exceeds that permitted by the present sign regula- tions. Staff cannot support arty additional advertising signage on this site due to the signing which already exists. HDwever, it would seem appro- priate to permit directional signage to guide pedestrian traffic on the site. The proposed sign exceeds the maximum 6 sq.ft, as indicated for directional signs in Section 21.68.040 of the signing regulations.
