SA 93-14 Consider the application of Mr. George Britt, on behalf of
Britt, G. Marshall's, for approval of a sign application on property
located at 1875 S. Bascom Avenue in the Pruneyard Shopping
Center in a C-2-S (General Commercial) Zoning District.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
That the Planning Commission take the following action:
1. Approve sign permit application., SA 9314, per the attached
findings and Conditions of Approval.

APPLICANT'S PROPOSAL
The applicant seeks approval of a sign application to allow a 109 square foot
sign, reading "Marshall's" located on the store front and the remodel of an

BACKGROUND
The proposed tenant space, Unit #510, was previously occupied by Food Villa
Super Market. A sign with channel letters was previously approved for the

A sign program has been approved for the minor tenants in the shopping
center featuring a revised sign design. Marshall's lettering style and channel
letters represents a logo identifying the applicant's business and is similar to
the previous Food Villa sign.

Building Frontage: 120 linear feet
Sign Ordinance Requirement: The Sign Ordinance permits one wall sign per
business to a maximum of 50 square feet, with the standard of one square foot
per each linear foot of business frontage. The proposed signing request of 109
square feet exceeds the maximum sign area permitted, by 59 square feet, thus,
requiring the Planning Commission approval. The remodel of the free-
standing sign is subject to Planning Commission approval, due to the fact that
more than one free-standing sign identifies thie shopping center.
elanning Commission Authority: The Planning Cc :^r4�sion has the
authority to approve additional signage deemed appropriate and in keeping
with the intent of the Sign Ordinance.
SUM MARY/R ECOMMENDATION
Staff finds that the proposed signs are appropriate for a major tenant in the
shopping center and that the sign proposal is consistent with the principles
and purposes of the Sign Ordinance. Therefore, staff recommends approval
of SA 93-14 per the attached findings and conditions.
