COMMERCIAL) ZONING DISTRICT. (APPLICATION OF MR. CIARENCE
SUZUKI, UP 89-28).
After notification and public hearing as snecified by law on the application of
Mr. Clarence Suzuki for a Use Permitand approval of an off -sale beer and wine
license on property known as 1875 South Bascom Avenue in a C-2-S (General
Commercial) 7.oniug District., as per the application filed in the Planning
Department on October 10, 1989,; and, after presentation by the Planning
Director, proponents and opponents, the hearing was closed.
After due consideration of all evidence presented, the Planning Commission did
find as follows:
1. Health/Safety: The establishment, maintenance or operation of the use
applied for will not be detrimental to the health, safety, peace, morals,
comfort or general welfare of persons residing or working in the
neighborhood of such proposed use, or be detrimental or injurious to
property and improvements in the neighborhood or to the general welfare of
the City.
2. Traffic: The proposed site is adequately served by streets of sufficient
capacity to carry the kind and quantity of traffic such ose would generate.
3. Compatibility: The proposed use is _ompatible with the uses in the area.
4. Compatibility: The use is in harmonv with the various elements or
objectives of the City's General Plan.
Based on the above findings, the Planning Commission does hereby grant the
requested Use Permit, subject to the following conditions:
1. Rest Room may be at the and of a 20 foot dead end corridor. Show length of
corridor center of door to door. Correct with additional door in the small
ballroom if recessarv. Provide panic hardware on doors and illuminated
exit lights.

UP 89-28 Public Hearing to consider the application of Mr.
Suzuki, C. Clarence Suzuki for approval of a Use Permit to allow the
off -sale beer and wine license in conjunction with an
international food and gift speciality store, located on
property known as 1875 South Bascom Avenue, unit 138, it a
C-2-S (General Commercial) Zoning District.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
That the Planning Commission ADOPT it RESOLUTION, incorporating the
attached findings, approving the applicants request for an off -sale beer
and wine license in conjunction with a speciality foou and gift store.
DISCUSSION
Background
Applicant's Request: The applicant is requesting approval of a Use Permit.
for an off -sale beer and wine license, in conjunction with a speciality
food and gift store.
Description of Proposal: The prorosed gift shop will carry a wide variety
of items. The operation will also include assembly of gift baskets, which
will include beer and wines, theretore. th. - ,licant is required to obtain
a Use Permit to sell beer and wine.
Location: The proposed business will occupy approximately 1100 square feet
of retail space in the Pruneyard Shopping Center, in a C-.-S (General
Commercial) Zoning District.
Similar Uses in the Area: Estab I stir enLs serving or selling alcohol in
proximity to the proposed business are, as follows: 1) Hickory Pit
Restaurant, 2) Mini Mart, 3) Togos. P.ddiLionallN, there ate 7 restaurants
and one supermarket in the Pruneyard Complex which sell alcoholic
beverages.
Police Department Review: The requestwas referred to the Police
Department for review and rocommendat.ion. The Police Department has no
objections or recommendations for the proposed requesL.
