GRANTED PY THE CITY OF CAMPBELL PLANNING COMMISSION AT A REGULAR MEETING HELD ON THE, day of F,',ruavy , 1972 . CITY OF CAMPBELL PLANNING COMMISSION cc: Engineering Det,t. By; ARTHUR KEE, SECRETARY STAFF COMMENT SHEET - PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING OF FEBRUARY 22, 1972 "S" 72-3 Application of Mobil Oil Company to construct Mobil Oil canopies over existing pump islands located at the southwest corner of Bascom and Hamilton Avenues in a C-2-S Zone. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Approval, subject to approval of variance 72-3. STAFF DISCUSSION: The applicant proposes to construct two circular canopies twent; two feet in d;ameter ove. the existimg pump islands at the Mobil Station on the southwest corner of Hamilton and Bascom Avenues. The canopies will be supported by a central column and illuminated by internal lighting. The staff has reviewed this proposal in relation to additional landscaping and it would seem to the staff that a requirement for locating more landscaping on the site may not be justified for the following reasons: 1. The ingress -egress circulation pattern does not provide a distance great enough to install a planter bed parallel to either Hamilton or Bascom Avenues. 2. The planter bed at the corner of Bascom and Hamilton Avenues is 720 square feet and well maintained. 3. There are several planter beds around the main building that are enclosed within a brick planter wall and are well maintained and have some mature trees. Mr. Powell stated that due to the ingress and egress pattern and the closeness of the sumps to the Ptreet, it would ),a practl^ally impossible to put in a planter strip pa:alle' to a Cher Hamilton or Bascom Avenues. The existing landscaping is eeil ^arod f•.r, but he indicated on a sketch a fift.en foot area to t:, front of an existing planter -that could be utilized. This world also do away with tLe parking of ca:•s on that strip of land. Commissioner Alexander advised thatthe committee had discus3ed the additional landscaping with Kr. Kehrli that morning and this was the only location where additional landscaping could be placed. Commissioner Paul suggested that the landscape plan be app- by the Planning Director and Chairman Scott stated that e condition should be added to the conditicns of apprcval that the landscaping be submitted to the Planning Dire-.i:or for apprc,:<::1. Commissioner Paul moved that's" 72-3 be approved subject to the following condition: 1. Plan indicating additional landscaping shall be submitted to the Planning Director for approval prior to the issuance of a building permit. Motion seconded by Commissioner Alexander and unanimotioly adopted. Chairman Scott asked f e the report of the ArcLitectural Review Committee. Commissioner Ale:ande^ stated that the committee recommended approval. However, he and Mr. Powell had visited the site rnd they suggested that some additional landscaping be installed. He asked Mr. Powell to report on -the existing landscaping and w;at they had in mind.
