The applicant hereby applies for a Use Permit upon the additional
property purchased adjoinit.g our present property, subject property being
presently soned R-1 which will permit it to continue to operate, maintain
and expand its operation on said premises.
The applicant is a public utility corporation duly certified as such by
the State of California with a history of 45 years of operation in the Camp-
bell area. Its principal function is to furnish and sell domestic water to
residential and commercial consumers, and it is the only source of domestic
water for the area.
The demands of the present expansion of the surrounding area and antici-
pated future development and growth necessi.:ate this request. Engineering
theories for an efficient water distribution system demand that source be
relatively close to the area served. This station was purchased originally
as a central location upon which a major pumping activity would be performed.
The only use on the new property proposed at this time is a new well with
no surface structures other than ultimate fencing in conjunction with the
County Expressway development.
This property was granted a Use Permit by the County when it was purchased
in 1943 and expanded by permit of the City of Campbell in 1958. At that time
the westward expansion of the Town of Campbell and resulting expansion of this
Company's services was anticipated. Thus the large size in order that proper
and adequate growth could take place to satisfy future requirements.
It can be stated that the requested use continues to be basic to our present
day living, is of vital importance to the citizens of Campbell, and it is only
by permitting this installation that the applicant can efficiently and adequate-
ly discharge its duty to furnish water to the consuming public.
