Yes, I think we will want to look at what Los Gatos (and any other similar city with a comparable downtown) has done and
present that as an option, with the pros and cons and results achieved, to the Council.
Please give some thought to when you think we could be ready for such a study session, and we'll get it on the calendar.
Thanks.

I agree that this should be a study session item because the growing trend of new restaurants could be driving out retail
businesses. We've talked about this very subject on occasion, discussed it at Planning Commission meetings and also
this very morning. You probably are aware that Los Gatos has placed a cap on "restaurants" within their downtown
to maintain a desired mix of uses. We may want to look at this model.

Hi, Paul.
See Jason's questions and comments below. Probably a good topic for a study session. What do you think?

My question ‐ maybe one for the retreat‐ is whether restaurants can pay more rent and, therefore, everyone is raising
rents because they think they'll get a restaurant too?
In other words, is there something we need to do to prevent rents from being raised so high that we (or"they") end up
ruining the mix of businesses necessary for a vibrant, diverse and Interesting downtown? I know we can't control
commercial rents, but we could (for instance) announce at some point that we aren't green lighting any new
restaurants.
Just thinking out loud. Not sure I believe all of above.

Dear Council:
I am writing to let you know that Green Planet Yarn will be moving to Willow Glen. Their lease is expiring
after 5 years and they were unable to reach an agreement with the landlord to renew. Beth, the
owner, loves Campbell, has been doing very well here, and is sad to leave downtown. Unfortunately, by
the time we learned about the impasse with her landlord, she had already signed a lease in Willow Glen,
so there is not anything we can do to try and assist her in staying here.
