Mr. Robert C. Stephens
City Manager
City of Campbell

Campbell, California 95008
Dear Mr. Stephens:
In reply to your recent inquiry as to whether or not Shell would
be willing to put in street improvements at our property at Hamilton and
Almarida Avenue in Campbell, I have delayed my response because we were
actively engaged in negotiations with an interested developer. Should these
negotiations have been consummated successfully I could have given you an
exact time when the necessary street work would be accomplished.
However, these negotiations have fallen through and I cannot give
you an estimate of a likely time of development for this property.
In view of the approximate cost of $35,000 to complete the required
street improvements and in view of the now uncertain time that the property
will be developed, we would like to defer any street work until such time as
the property is closer to development than it now appears.
Should the City wish to undertake the street work now for their
own account, we would be willing to dedicate the land to the City under such
conditions.
Should you wish to discuss any aspects of this, I would be glad
to meet with you and other city officials at any time convenient to you.

Shell Building
100 Bush Street
San Francisco, California
Dear Mr. Bowen:
When you last visited my office on Thursday, September
2, 1966, you expressed a desire to have me obtain for
you some cost estimates for the improvement of Almarida
Drive and Hamilton Avenue which fronts on the property
currently owned by Shell Oil Company.
Our City Engineer has prepared a cost breakdown of
these costs as follows:
Street pavement and curb and gutter
Sidewalk and street lighting
Engineering and contingencies
Estimated total cost
$20,000
9,000
4,000
$33,000
We trust you will give this your serious consideration.
This office is at~our disposal to discuss any problems
you may have relating to the improvement of this street
frontage.
This dedication and street improvement work would greatly
relieve the serious traffic congestion at the busy inter-
section of Almarida brive and Hamilton Avenue.
Looking forward to hearing from you in the near future
in regard to this matter.

If you will give me such an estimate, I will then re-submit
