Utility Waiver - 2004July 30, 2004 Sharon Timoner & Chris Sobczyn 174 North Second Street Campbell, CA 95008 Re: File No. PLN2004-88 Underground Utilities Waiver 174 North Second Street Dear Sharon Timoner & Chris Sobczyn: Please be advised that the Community Development Director, with the concurrence of the City Engineer, has reviewed your request to permit overhead services in lieu of the requirement to underground the utilities in conjunction with the addition of your residence on the above-referenced property. Pursuant to Campbell Municipal Code section 21.18.140, this request has been granted because the existing electrical panel location is not changing and the limited likelihood that other utility lines will be placed underground in the neighborhood. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (408) 866-2124. Sincerely, GeoffBradley Senior Planner cc: Frank Mills, Senior Building Inspector Ed Arango, Land Development Engineer 70 North First Street. Campbell, California 95008-1436 TEL 408.866.2140 . FAX 408.871.5140 . TDD 408.866.2790 RECEIVED June 30, 2004 JUL 2 0 2004 CITY OF CAMPBELL PLANNING DEPT. Ms, Sharon Fierro Community Development Director City of Campbell 70 North First Street Campbell, CA 95008 Dear Ms, Fierro: We are writing this letter because we are planning an addition to our home located at 174 North Second Street. The plans were submitted on June 2, 2004 and were picked up from the building department on June 25,2004. When I spoke to the Public Works Department, I was told that the city is requiring us to have our new electrical service drop relocated to the opposite side of the property and changed from overhead to underground. We are requesting a waiver on this requirement under Section 21.18.140D of the Campbell Municipal Code. Under this section the Community Development Director may authorize the installation of overhead facilities in lieu of underground facilities in certain instances, taking into consideration: 1. The estimated cost of underground utilities as compared to overhead installation: We estimate that it will cost approximately three (3) times the amount to install underground utilities. Given our desire to remain in Campbell, and the high cost of construction, this is an enormous difference and will delay the project accordingly. 2. The location of the nearest above ground utility service: The nearest above ground utility service is at the corner of our property, opposite from where our current utility tie in is situated. Accordingly, the above ground utility service will not be required to cross the street nor will it be unsightly 3. The likelihood that other overhead utility lines in the surrounding neighborhood will be placed underground: We have resided at this address for five years (in October) and have seen at least one major remodeVaddition in our neighborhood during this time. This home Gust two doors from ours) has an overhead service drop just as it did before the remodel. Notably, every house on our block has an overhead service drop as does most every other house in the whole downtown area. Your overall cooperation in this project has been greatly appreciated. We hope this clearly describes the reasons behind our request for waiver of Campbell Municipal Code 21.18.140. We love our home in Campbell and we know it will be a beautifjdl upgrade to our neighborhood. We look forward to your prompt response to our request, by letter/by lhone or by email.
