SECTION 21
CAMPBELL MUSEUMS FACILITIES USE & RENTAL POLICY
A. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The Campbell Historical Museum, Ainsley House, and Carriage House are
owned and operated by the City of Campbell as a public trust institution,
having as its purpose the collection, preservation, documentation, protection,
exhibition, education, and interpretation of objects and artifacts of cultural and
historic value or significance relative to Campbell and its sphere of influence.
B. BACKGROUND
The Ainsley House was the family home of local fruit canning pioneer John C.
Ainsley and his wife Alcinda. . The house sat on the corner of Hamilton
Avenue and Bascom Avenue until it was donated to the City of Campbell in
1989 and moved to its present location in November of 1990. The City of
Campbell made the home into a historic house museum, furnished with most
of the Ainsley family's original furnishings. It is open for public and private
tours and hosts a rotating exhibit on the Ainsley Family, House, and Work in
the Sleeping Porch Room. The Museum's primary mission is to preserve and
protect the historic building and contents for the pleasure of current and future
generations. The Ainsley House itself is a registered historical landmark and
is not available for rental uses of any kind. Events are welcome, however, in
the Ainsley House Garden.
The Ainsley House Garden, located behind the house, is a unique and
beautiful community facility available for public use for social gatherings,
weddings and other events as long as the historical integrity of the site is
respected and preserved. Public use is allowed in the enclosed garden area
only. The garden will accommodate up to 200 people. As there are no
alternate indoor facilities available, the Garden is only rentable during fair
weather months (May through October).
The Carriage House is located adjacent to the Ainsley House and serves as a
permanent exhibit space, video orientation area and gift shop. The space can
be rented year round and can accommodate up to 40 people.
C. FACILITY DESCRIPTIONS
The Museum facilities are comprised of historic and surrounding garden
areas. Since the historic structures are considered collection objects, their
use, preservation and conservation must be consistent with policies
governing the Museum's collections.
