------------------------------------ Message Contents ------------------------------------
The sign for pruneyard Garden (35-47-57 Union Avenue) may not pose a
driveway sight distance problem as much as it is an eyesore.
The sign is 5'-10" to 7'-9" high, 7' wide, 6' from the face of curb.
From the driveway at 57 Union Avenue, which is 70' away from the sign,
a motorist driving forward onto Union Avenue should have sufficient
sight distance if we assume 35-mph speeds on Union Avenue, that the
driver's eye is 7' from the front bumper, that the bumper does not
pass the face of curb, and the driveway motorist is starting from a
stopped position.
With these assumptions, the sign could be as close as 5' from the face
of curb (which is at the back of the 5' sidewalk) without blocking the
view of the driveway motorist if the motorist stops before entering
the street. The driveway motorist may have problems, however, if he
or she does not come to a complete stop before entering Union Avenue.
In this case, the sign may appear to obscure the motorist's sight.
The sign definitely violates height restrictions for objects with 15'
of the property line.
