Storefront Improvements - 1998March 18, 1998 City Manager's Office' Redevelopment Division Gloria Sciara, Planner City of Campbell 70 N. First St. Campbell, CA 95008 Re: 295-329 E. Campbell Ave. - The Courtyard Shops Dear Gloria, Please fmd enclosed plans for the renovation of The Courtyard Shops. This renovation is being conducted under the Redevelopment Agency's Storefront Improvement Program. I look forward to the review of this project by the Historic Preservation Board at the March 25th, 1998 meeting. The storefront architect, Mark Srebnik, AlA has prepared a number of alternatives for this historic property. The option pursued was selected because it complimented the style of the existing historic courtyard buildings, opened views into the courtyard, and provided an outdoor seating area immediately behind the sidewalk. The improvements can be summarized as follows: . Construction of matching archway elements, . New signage both at the street and for the individual shops within the courtyard. . New awnings . New window treatment, including decorative tile base and architectural molding. . Painting of the entire building. . New decorative light fIXtures at the street elevation. . New landscape planters and patio surfaces, Thank you for your time and assistance on this project. If I may provide any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me at 866-2124. Sincerely, Geoff I. Bradley Redevelopment Coordinator MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: DATE: RE: HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD GLORIA SCIARA MARCH 19, 1998 STOREFRONT IMPROVEMENT PROPOSAL 295-329 E. CAMPBELL AVE Attached is a description of the proposed storefront improvement for the buildings known as "The Courtyard Shops." Staff has reviewed a total of three design alternatives, and finds that the attached proposal is the most appropriate remodel for the following reasons: . The majority of the building's integrity as a retail use remains intact. . The improvement is consistent in scale and architecture to the existing building and compliments the building. . The property will have more "street presence" or emphasis by having the entrances relocated to the front of the building and with the use of storefront windows. . The proposed addition is minor in nature, and can be distinguished from the original building. . Improved signage and period lighting details will compliment the unique nature of the building. . The proposal will emphasis this building within the downtown by improving the pedestrian "environment" within the courtyard. The Redevelopment Coordinator will present the two other design proposal that were considered for the building for comparison purposes at the meeting.
