SCVWD Letter - 2001~ ;~d~~',~'~'' ~ 5750 ALMADEN EXPWY ~ SAN JOSE, CA 95118-3686 TELEPHONE (408) 265-2600 FACIMILE (408) 266-0271 www.scvwd.dst.ca.us AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER June 8, 2001 Mr. Barton A. Smith 935 Crockett Avenue Campbell, CA 95008 RECEIVED CITy Dear Mr. Smith: Subject: Preliminary Plan for a Proposed Storage Shed at 935 Crockett Avenue Santa Clara Valley Water District (District) staffhas reviewed the preliminary plan to construct a 24- by 30-foot storage shed at the subject address, submitted to us on May 23, 2001. According to the Federal Emergency Management Flood Insurance Rate Map, the west portion of the site is located within Zone A, an area of 100-year flood, where the base flood elevations and flood hazard factors are not determined. The District's maps of flood control facilities showing the limits of 1 percent flooding show that the westerly portion of the site is subject to flooding in the event of a 100-year flood. The depth of flooding would be less than 1 foot. The placement of the proposed storage shed within the floodplain may divert floodwaters to other lands, thereby increasing the depth or lateral extent of flooding on other property. Please be aware that the proposed storage shed and its contents may be subject to damage due to flooding, since it is located within the 100-year floodplain. Alternatively, you may construct the storage shed outside of the limits of the floodplain. The site is located adjacent to a District facility, Smith Creek, and District fee title right of way. The plan should label the District facility, "Smith Creek" and District property, as "Lands of Santa Clara Valley Water District." There must be no overbank drainage from the subject site into Smith Creek. The site drainage must be directed into an existing storm drain system. Provide the site grading and drainage plans to show the proposed grading and drainage of site runoff adjacent to the creek and the proposed storage shed. In accordance with District Ordinance 83-2, a District permit is required for any work within 50 feet of the top of the creek bank or District right of way. The proposed construction of a storage shed requires a District permit. Our records show no registered wells on this site. If wells are found during design or construction of this project, they must be registered or abandoned in accordance with District Ordinance 90-1. For additional information regarding wells, please call Mr. Mike Duffy at (408) 265-2607, extension 2743. The mission of the Santa Clara Valley Water District is a healthy, safe and enhanced quality of living in Santa Clara County through the comprehensive management of water resources in a practical, cost-effective and environmentally sensitive manner. Mr. Barton A. Smith 2 June 8, 2001 Please submit two sets of revised site plans for our review and issuance of a permit prior to the start of any construction. Please reference District File No. 28360 on any future correspondence regarding this project. I can be reached at (408) 265-2607, extension 2731, for any further questions.
