RE: Tree Removal Permit (PLN 2000-137) - 295 Union Avenue
Dear Ms. Noce:
The Community Development Director has conditionally approved your application for a Tree
Removal Permit (PLN 2000-137) to remove two (2) pine trees currently located on the Paseo
de Palomas property, subject to the following condition:
1. Two (2) 24" Box Crepe Myrtle trees shall be planted within 30 days of this letter, per the
Tree Protection Ordinance.
It is recommended that the trees be removed by persons who are experienced and bonded for
the removal of trees and that the stumps be ground out and the roots removed so there will not
be re-growth of the pine trees.
The Tree Removal Permit has been approved based upon the City's determination that the
trees are growing very close to the mobile homes on the property and are adversely impacting
the buildings, sidewalk and other healthy trees. The trees exhibit stunted states of health and
structural weakness, which present a danger of falling and causing potential damage to the
main buildings on the property. Staff has determined that the situation cannot be reasonably
remedied by means other than removal.
This approval is final in 10 days, unless an appeal is received in writing at the City of
Campbell Community Development Department Office, 70 N. First Street, Campbell, on or
before Monda~,~ November 6~ 2000. No trees may be removed until after the 10-day appeal
period has passed and no appeals have been received within this time period.
Should you have any questions regarding the above referenced matter, please do not hesitate to
contact me at the Community Development Department at (408) 866-2193.
Sincerely,
Darcy Smith

Dear Diane:
Thank you tbr the opportunity to inspect the Pine tree at the above referenced address.
The ~ree is a Canary Island Pine, (~r~tt~ c~ier~s.t~, which is has a 17.5 inch di~neter
measured at breast height, reaches a height of almost 52 feet and has a crown spread
nearing 35 feet, (See Photosraph 1)
While the tree enjoys good physiological health, its structure is somewhat compromised.
The tree exhibits a co-dominant stem from a height of about 10 feet, giving rise to two
major leaders which make up the crown of the tree. The poim at which the tree forks can
be considered a point of structural weakness, which may render the tree likely to fail with
potentially catastrophic results. (See Photograph 3)
Much of the canopy of the tree grows over the awnin8 of the home beneath it, causin~
much accunmlafion of troublesome debris upon thc roof, (See Photosrapb 2)
As with other Pines, (since removed), on the property, the tree is growing in seriously
restricted ~rowin8 space in a planter little more than 3 feet wide and bordered on each side
with a hard surfae.~. Th~s~ are a fkst growin§, large forest trees and its pot~rltial for
increase in trunk girth and root mass is ~normous. Th~ end r~sult of this ~rowth is likely
to be a s4~ious disruption of the infrastructure ofth~ road and pathways. ($¢.e Photograph
