Dear Mr. and Mrs. Mailander:
The Planning Division has reviewed your Fence Exception application for a seven-foot fence along
your rear and street side property line and within the required line of sight triangular area along the
street side yard required for standard comer lots at 1045 Lovell Avenue.
The Community Development Director, upon recommendation from the Public Works Director, has
determined that the requested Fence Exception:
1. Will not impair vehicular or pedestrian safety;
2. Will result in a more desirable site layout from a maintenance and use standpoint;
3. Will not be detrimental to the health, safety, peace, morals, comfort or general welfare of the
City; and
4. Will not be detrimental or injurious to property and improvements in the neighborhood or to the
general welfare of the City.
Therefore, your request for a Fence Exception has been approved. The Fence Exception is
granted for the above referenced address, subject to the following conditions of approval:
1. Prior to construction of the fence, the applicant shall obtain building permits from the
Campbell Building Division.
2. The fence shall not exceed seven (7) feet in height. The approved design consists of a six
(6) foot wood fence with one foot of lattice on top.
3. The fence shall be contained entirely within the property lines and shall not encroach
onto adjacent properties or the public right-of-way.
This approval is final in ten days unless a written appeal letter and the required fee of $100.00 is
received at the City Clerk's Office, 70 N. First Street, Campbell on or before Friday, November 8,
2002.

Fence Exception on Sonuca at Lovell
Stephanie,
Here's the photo showing the driver's point of view at the corner of Lovell at Sonuca. The fence
would extend along the back of walk. ! checked the aerial, and the owner cannot use the gate in the
fence on Sonuca as a driveway.
! don't see a problem with the fence from a traffic point of view. From a pedestrian's point of view,
having the fence up against the back of walk gives the sidewalk area a crowded feel.
Something to pass along to the applicant is the planter strip needs to be maintained so that the
vegetation doesn't grow into the sidewalk.

We are requesting a fence exception for a six-foot high solid fence with one foot lattice extension at
the top plus a fourteen foot horizontal extension on the Sonuca Avenue side on our property for the
following reasons:
1. We recently purchased our home at 1045 Lovell Avenue (moved in on July 1, 2002) and have
been planning changes to make it mom livable.
2. The two adjacent neighbors have six-foot high solid fences with one-foot lattice extension at
the top with similar designs and heights to what we propose. Thus the new fence would
closely match the two adjacent fences.
3. We am planning to expand our back bedroom into a master bedroom and build a patio adjacent
to it. The fence extension at the top will provide better personal privacy by making the patio
mom secluded. The additional length will allow a better design of the master bedroom and will
also provide wind protection for the patio. This will make the patio mom usable much of the
time.
4. The fence extension should not impede traffic safety at the intersection because Lovell Avenue
(a ~'o lane street) widens to eighty one feet at the cross walk as the street intersects with
Sonuca Avenue. Thus them are and will be clear sight lines when approaching the intersection
from either direction.
Enclosed are throe copies of a site map showing the house footprint, detail and elevation of new
fence, a location map, and letters from our adjacent neighbors.
Thank you in advance for considering our request.
