Tree Removal Permit Application
125-A Redding Road
Dear Ms. Spatola:
The Community Development Director has conditionally approved your application for a Tree
Removal Permit (PLN 2001-00127) to remove one (1) Black Walnut tree currently located in the rear
yard of the property located at 125-A Redding Road, subject to the following condition:
1. One (1) 36-inch box Purple Leaf Plum tree will be planted on the property to replace the Black
Walnut tree on or before December 19, 2001, per the Tree Protection Ordinance.
The Tree Removal Permit has been approved based upon the City's determination, with a supporting
recommendation by a Certified Arborist, that the tree has grown too large for its location and is causing
damage to the existing patio and underground pipes. Further, the close proximity of the tree to the
house presents a potential for substantial damage to the foundation of the home Staff has determined
that the situation cannot be reasonably remedied by means other than removal.
It is recommended that the trees be removed by persons who are experienced and bonded for the
removal of trees and that the stumps be ground out and the roots removed so there will not be re-
growth of the tree.
This approval is final in 10 days, unless an appeal is received in writing at the City of Campbell City
Clerk's Office, 70 N. First Street, Campbell, on or before Monday, November 19, 2001. The tree
may not be removed until after the 10-day appeal period has passed and no appeals .have been
received. If no appeals are filed, staff will send you a letter to let you know that the Tree Removal
Permit is final. A notice of tree removal will be posted on the property where it is visible to the
public. The notice will also be sent out to all the property owners within 300 feet of the property.
Should you have any questions regarding the above referenced matter, please do not hesitate to
contact me at (408) 866-2143 or via email at stephaniew~ci.campbell.ca.us.

To Whom It May Concern:
Saratoga Tree Service was asked to inspect a Black Walnut in the baekyard of 125A
Redding Rd. in Campbell.
The tree is approximately 29 inches DBH at 4ft (circumference of 90 inches at 4ft.) and
35 feet high. It is located directly behind the gate which leads into the backyard. Due to
the formation of the think, the access through this gate is somewhat limited (please see
photos #1 and #3). The tree has only one main trunk which starts to lean heavily at 3ft.
or so. The canopy self-corrects the lean at about 9ft. There is little to no hunk taper.
The canopy of the tree has approximately 20% deadwood in it. The remaining portion of
the canopy appears to be in good health at this time (a climbing inspection of the canopy
was not done). There are multiple old priming cuts on the trunk at 3 - 4 fi. and a large,
secondary leader was removed on the house side at 5fi. or so.
The patio under the -tree has been crocked in two different places. The mink of the tree is
7ft. from the edge o£the building. The air conditioning unit has been lifted by the tree
and is within 3 inches of the trunk (please see photo #3). A small fence erected to hide
the air-conditioning unit is adjacent to the trunk of the tree (mink is growing into fence).
Please feel free to call with any questions.
Respectfully submitted,
Lucy Leeburg
