Tree Removal Request at the Pruneyard Shopping Center
1999 S. Bascom Avenue
Dear Mr. Clark:
City of Campbell staff has reviewed your request to remove five pine trees in the parking lot
between Hobees Restaurant and the office towers. Staff was unable to make the required
findings to approve the removal of the trees.
In order to remove a tree, a determination has to be made that the tree is diseased or in danger of
falling or that it is causing substantial damage to existing or proposed main buildings or utilities.
The five pine trees look healthy and are not causing damage to any buildings. Staff is aware of
cracks at the curb near the base of the largest tree. The cost to the Pruneyard of repairing the
curb is relatively minor in comparison to the great benefit that the large, mature pine tree adds to
the Pruneyard and the City overall.
Without an arborist report stating otherwise, the trees appear to be healthy and provide a great
aesthetic appearance to the Pruneyard.
In reference to the Sycamore trees near the Outback Steakhouse, staff is unable to support the
removal of the trees for the same reasons as above. The trees are healthy and conti-ibute to the
beauty of the center.
