Dear Mr. Griggs:
Please be advised that the Community Development Director has reviewed your request to permit
overhead utility services in conjunction with the addition to your residence on the above-referenced
property in lieu of the requirement to underground the utilities.
Pursuant to Campbell Municipal Code Section 21.18.140, the request to underground utilities has
been granted due to the limited likelihood that other utility lines in the surrounding neighborhood will
be placed underground and the high cost of undergrounding the utilities as compared to overhead
installation.
If you should have any questions regarding this determination, please do not hesitate to contact me at
(408) 866-2144.

We request a waiver of the requiremen~ to install our util~ ,!:!nderground in conjunction
with our home remodel, permit # _-fffi..il~L_:i?JdEf-_5-=-~3.(

Our reasons are: /
· Our neighborhood has the existing utilities (electrical, telecom and cable) running
above ground between poles along the rear property line. This puts the utilities in
our backyard along the fence line. All of our neighbors existing utilities are
running above ground, even the recent whole-house remodels. It is very unlikely
that our neighborhood will run underground utilities in the near future, and
therefore it is unfair that we are singled out.
We understand that this rule aids neighborhoods in moving to underground
utilities. Some neighborhoods however, are further along in this goal than others.
Ours is clearly not one of these, as the attached photos show.
· The expense to put our above ground utilities underground is an undue hardship
to us at $5000.00 (per electrical contractor) plus whatever PG&E charges us for
them to provide their modified connection for our hook up.
Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter.
