Tree Removal Permit-Exempt 2003November 5, 2003 Commercial Tree Care 925 Newhall Street San Jose, CA 95126 Attn: James CITY oF CAMPBELL Community Development Department CAMPBELL Tree Removal Request 543 Latimer Circle Dear Applicant: Thank you for the submittal of the arborist report recommending removal of a Canary Island Pine in the rear yard of the townhome on the referenced property. The Tree Removal Permit application to remove one (1) Canary Island Pine tree currently located in the private yard area has been reviewed and approved. A review of the approved landscaping plan for this townhome development does not indicate any tree planting in this private yard area. Consequently, this tree is not protected under the Tree Preservation Ordinance and may be removed without the issuance of a tree removal permit. Should you have any questions regarding the above referenced matter, please do not hesitate to contact me at (408) 866-2144 or via email at timh @cityofcampbell.com. Observations: The subject specimen is healthy and does not exhibit damage or developmental disfigurement that would have compromised structural integrity. Trunk caliper is approximately forty two inches (abh). Endemic soil is dense and drains slowly but has been generously and frequently irrigated to sustain adjacent lawn. Lower strata have likely been continually moist and occasionally saturated, which would have inhibited dispersion of roots into deeper strata and subsequent development of adequate stability. The trunk of the subject specimen is in direct proximity to the interior of a comer of an adjacent fence. Expansion of the trunk would displace the fence. Development of buttressed roots or expansion of roots at the surface of the soil will displace features of the associated garden as well as the garden of the adjacent residence. This species becomes disproportionately large when mature and can not be contained within the area. Recommendations: Salvage is not practical. Removal is therefore recommended. Prompt removal of the specimen, prior to development of expected damage or accumulation of additional vegetative material, would be more practical.
