Dear Mr. Penny:
Please be advised that the Community Development Director has reviewed your request to permit overhead
utility services in conjunction with the residential addition on the above-referenced property in lieu of the
requirement to underground the utilities.
Pursuant to Campbell Municipal Code Section 21.18.140 (Undergrounding of Utilities), this request has been
granted for the following reasons:
1. The existing utility pole is located in the rear yard where existing services to surrounding properties will
remain.
2. The estimated cost of $15,000 to underground versus $1,000 for the relocation of service is excessive in
light of the visual benefit of eliminating one overhead power line.
3. Due to the established character of the neighborhood, it is not likely that other utility services will be
relocated underground in this neighborhood.
If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (408) 866-2124 or via email at

RE: Waiver for underground utilities.
To whom it may concern,
We are requesting a waiver for having to install the existing utilities
underground. We feel that the cost of having to do this, (12k-15k) is an
unnecessary burden to the home owner. The other factor is the timeline;
due to past experiences with PG~E, the length of time they take to
process and complete moving the utilities underground (5-7 months) causes
major delays on most projects. More so in this case, where our current
project time Schedule is 8 to 12 weeks in its entirety. The current
condition of the project site and the majority of the neighborhood has
over head power from the rear of the property. Most likely would prohibit
the project in its current State. We would ask that considering the Small
Scope of are addition/remodel and the fact that the electrical panel is
moving closer to the pole and exorbitant cost of moving under that you
would consider a wavier in this matter.
Respectfully,
David Penny
