Dear Mr. Weisenburger,
Please be advised that the Community Development Director has reviewed your request to
permit overhead utility services in conjunction with the relocation and service upgrade to an
existing electrical box for an existing residence on the above-referenced property in lieu of
the requirement to underground the utilities.
Pursuant to Campbell Municipal Code Section 21.18.140 (Undergrounding of Utilities), this
request has been granted for the following reasons:
1. The significant time delay of installing utilities underground relative to the project
schedule; and
2. The significant cost of installing utilities underground relative to the project cost.
3. Due to the established character of the neighborhood, it is not likely that other utility
services will be relocated underground in this neighborhood.

To whom it may concern,
We are writing a request for a underground utility service waiver. A permit was issued to us on
Fri. June 22"d @ 187 Poplar Ave. Campbell, Ca. 95008 and was issued for an electrical box
relocation from the front wall of the house to the side wall of the house. After work was
completed the planner informed us that since the electrical box was transferred and not just
upgraded, all services would need to be run underground. Unfortunately this was not disclosed to
us at the time of the transfer permit being issued. We were only informed of the measurement
requirements surrounding the actual box itself. In addition, in order to (after the fact) comply
with this new requirement we would be forced to disturb two of our neighbor's properties,
remove and replace large mature trees, and pay extremely high unexpected costs above and
beyond what we feel is reasonable for a job the we could have bypassed by upgrading the
existing location of service. Thank you for your time on this matter.
