Utility Waiver - 2006November 09, 2006 Walter Wong 1460 Westmont Avenue Campbell, CA 95008 Re: Underground Utility Waiver -File No: PLN2006-160 -1460 Westmont Avenue Dear Mr. Wong: Please be advised that the Community Development Director has reviewed your request to permit overhead utility services in conjunction with the construction of a new residence on the above-referenced property in lieu of the requirement to underground the utilities. Pursuant to Campbell Municipal Code Section 21.18.140 (Undergrounding of Utilities), this request has been granted for the following reasons: 1. The existing utility pole is across the street from the property; 2. The sign cant time delay of installing utilities underground relative to the project schedule; and 3. The significant cost of installing utilities underground relative to the project cost. 4. Due to the established character of the neighbofiood, it is not likely that other utility services will be underground in this neighbofiood. To elaborate on the points made in the letter, please consider the following: 1) Our next door neighbor to the west of us did an extensive remodeVnew construction approved for overhead utility. 2) It would be disruptive and a shame to tear up the recent street improvements made to Westmont Ave and very costly to restore. According to PGE, the overhead utility connection will cost $3,000 - $4,000. Cost to go underground will be north of $40K (joint utility - $38K, restore pavement - $8K + bond - $12K). The continued use of the utility overhead will be done in a manner that will protect the aesthetics of the new frontage for the property and will conform nicely to current conditions. Please review our plan and call me if you have questions. My number is 408 354 4949. `~ ` :~~ ~ ~`~:~ i~~.. ~,t R WEngineering, Inc. The property is being served by utility overhead from a power pole cross the street, as shown on the plan submitted. It is my opinion that we should maintain the existing condition for a new home. Changing the overhead to underground will have to cut the street pavement and interrupt the traffic. In addition the construction cost is too high. Therefore my client, Mr. Wong is willing to continue the use of the utility overhead. Please review the plan and call me if you have any questions.
