Underground Utility Waiver - 2009Community Development Department July 23, 2009 Mr. Richard Merk 1174 Denver Drive Campbell, CA 95008 Re: Underground Utility Waiver -File No: PLN2009-099 1174 Denver Drive Dear Mr. Merk: Please be advised that the Community Development Director has reviewed your request to permit overhead utility services in conjunction with the residential addition on the above-referenced property in lieu of the requirement to underground the utilities. Pursuant to Campbell Municipal Code Section 21.18.140 (Undergrounding of Utilities), this request has been granted for the following reasons: 1. The existing utility pole is located in the rear yard and is highly visible. 2. The estimated cost to underground versus the relocation of service is excessive in light of the visual benefit of eliminating one overhead wire, and 3. Due to the established character of the neighborhood, it is not likely that other utility services will be relocated underground in this neighborhood. Haley RE: permits #BLD2009-00489 Utility Underground Waiver Dear Mr. Haley, Our remodeling plans include increasing the square footage of our existing single family residence by some 156 sq. ft. Among other upgrades and general improvements, we wish to upgrade the electrical service to 200 amps. Since the wall where the existing panel is located will be extended some six feet, it will be necessary to move the panel (upgraded) some six feet to the corner of the building. Under grounding the utilities would simply be cost prohibitive. Additionally, all of the houses on our street (Denver Drive), as well as those on four immediate surrounding streets, are serviced by overhead power lines. This new panel connected overhead would therefore be consistent with the neighborhood.. Thank you for your consideration in our application for Underground Utility Waiver.
