Dear Applicant:
Please be advised that the Community Development Director has reviewed your request to
permit overhead utility services in conjunction with the residential addition on the above-
referenced property in lieu of the requirement to underground the utilities.
Pursuant to Campbell Municipal Code Section 21.18.140 (Undergrounding of Utilities), this
request has been granted for the following reasons:
1. The existing utility pole is located in the rear yard where existing services to surrounding
properties will remain;
2. Due to the established character of the neighborhood, it is not likely that other utility
services will be relocated underground in this neighborhood; and
3. The estimated cost to underground is excessive versus the cost to the relocate the
existing service.
4. The visual benefit of eliminating one overhead power line for a distance of
approximately 10 feet is not beneficial to the aesthetic improvements of the
neighborhood.

RE: Underground Utility Waiver Application
To Whom It May Concern,
Project Description:
Master Bedroom Addition on a Single Family Residence located at 1963 Cronwell Drive, San
Jose, CA 92125.
The purpose for my request to relocate and continue receiving PG&E power ovefiead versus
underground is for the following reasons:
(1) The utility pole is located approximately ten (10) feet from the proposed location of the new
electrical panel. We are requesting to upgrade to a new panel approximately 14 feet north of the
current location from the existing comer of the structure to the new corner of the structure. This
new location will decrease the length of the power lines above the roof minimizing the distance
from the pole to the proposed utility panel thereby improving the current condition.
(2) Access is very limited to the back yard where the utility pole is located on the neighbor's
property requiring removal and eventual replacement of the common fence and demolition of an
existing brick pathway. In addition, there is no way to access this area with equipment to dig
underground.
(3) The cost incurred to bring the power underground to the home would be exorbitant versus
receiving power ovefiead as it currently exists in addition to causing incontinence to the
surrounding neighbors. Continued overhead line attachment would maintain a condition
consistent with the existing surroundings
(4) All homes in the immediate neighbofiood are receiving their utilities via an overhead
connection. An overhead connection would remain consistent with all surrounding properties. In
addition there are approximately 20 power, phone, and cable lines existing and the removal of
one line would do little to improve the aesthetics in this area which is currently surrounded by
substantial foliage.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely
Justin LoVerme
