HPB Mins 03/24/2010HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD REGULAR MEETING MINUTES 4:00 p.m. -Wednesday City Council Chambers MARCH 24, 2010 CALL TO ORDER Chair Blake called the Historic Preservation Board meeting of Wednesday, March 24, 2010 to order at 4:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, located at 70 North First Street, Campbell, California, and the following proceedings were had to wit. ROLL CALL Board Members Present: Susan Blake, Chair JoElle Hernandez, Vice Chair Joyce Mestrovich Board Members Absent: Julie Heinzler Masel Sheehan Staff Members Present: Steve Prosser, Associate Planner APPROVAL OF MINUTES Board Member Mestrovich made a motion to approve the Regular Meeting Minutes of February 24, 2010. Vice-Chair Hernandez seconded. Approved 3-0. ORAL REQUESTS None. NEW BUSINESS 1. 1522 McCoy: Application of Rev. Hao Dinh for the demolition of a residence listed as a potential addition to the Historic Resource Inventory List on property currently Historic Preservation Board -Regular Meeting Minutes March 24, 2010 Paae 2 of 3 occupied by a Public Assembly Use (St Thomas of Canterbury Church) located at 1522 McCoy Avenue. After a lengthy discussion regarding the condition of the residence, Vice-Chair Hernandez made a Motion to authorize the Building Official to issue a Demolition Permit with the condition that the applicant contract with asalvage/recycling company that specializes in recycling and/or re-use of historic building materials. Board Member Mestrovich seconded. Approved 3-0. Vice Chair Hernandez recommended to the applicant that any future construction on the site should reflect the style of the structure to be removed. OLD BUSINESS 1. Heritage Tree: Nomination of the Redwood Grove in John D. Morgan Park as Heritage Trees. Following a short presentation from staff expressing concern regarding the nomination of the grove of trees located at John D. Morgan Park due to the trees condition, the Historic Preservation Board Chair Blake directed staff to present the proposed nomination of one Redwood Tree located at John D. Morgan Park to the Parks and Recreation Commission for review and recommendation at their April meeting. 2. Historic Preservation Month: Continue Discussion. Staff advised the Board that the theme for this year is, "Old is the New Green." Additionally, the Board has been invited to the May 4th City Council meeting to lead the Pledge of Allegiance changes. Additionally, the Board expressed interest in recognizing a member of the public for their work towards the promotion of historic preservation ideals. 3. Bunnv and Bonnets Parade: Continue Discussion. Chair Blake advised the Board that they will be participating in the Parade. As with previous years family member are welcome to this fun event. ANNOUNCEMENTS/COMMUNICATIONS Chair Blake reminded the Board Members present and directed staff to remind those Members who were absent to provide staff with the results of the Board's site visits to properties listed as potential additions to the Historic Resource Inventory List. Once received, staff will compile the results and present them to the Board at its meeting in April. Vice Chair Hernandez advised the Board that the Museum has been approved for a grant to purchase a new display case to replace the old deteriorating case locating Historic Preservation Board -Regular Meeting Minutes March 24, 2010 Page 3 of 3 outside of the City Council Chamber. The new display case should be installed in time for National Historic Preservation Month. ADJOURNMENT The Historic Preservation Board was adjourned at 4:53 p.m. to the next regular meeting to be held on April 28, 2010, at 4:00 p.m., City Council Chambers, 70 North First Street, Campbell, California.
