Heritage Tree- 201 Carlyn - 2007ITEM N0.2 (new business) STAFF REPORT-HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD MEETING OF MAY 28, 2007 PLN2008-90 Application for a Heritage Tree Designation (PLN2008-90) for amulti- Sassone, Brian & trunked (7 trunks) 150 year-old Live Oak tree with a 5-foot base trunk Helen diameter, on property owned by Brian and Helen Sassone at 201 Carlyn Avenue in a R-1-6 (Single-Family Residential) Zoning District. STAFF RECOMMENDATION That the Historic Preservation Board take the following action: Adopt a resolution, approving the Heritage Tree Designation for amulti-trunked (7 trunks) 150- year old Live Oak tree with a 5-foot base trunk diameter, on property owned by Brian and Helen Sassone at 201 Carlyn Avenue. DISCUSSION The applicant has submitted an application for a Heritage Tree Designation for amulti-trunked Live Oak tree estimated to be approximately 150 years old. The tree has a base trunk diameter of 5 feet, with seven branching trunks ranging from 12 inches to 24 inches in diameter. The tree is approximately 50 feet in height. If the Heritage Tree Designation is approved by the Historic Preservation Board, the City shall record the designation with the County Recorder's office and a copy shall be provided to the property owner and the Community Development Department. A listing of designated Heritage Trees and their locations shall be listed on the Historic Resources Inventory and maintained by the Community Development Department. ANALYSIS Staff is supportive of the Heritage Tree Designation for this tree based on the following findings: 1. It is an outstanding specimen of a desirable species. 2. It is one of significant age and/or girth in Campbell. 3. It is a native species. 4. It is on the Historic Preservation Board Tree Survey. Attachments 1. Tree Record, dated April 29, 2008. 2.
