HPB Resolution No. 16RESOLUTION N0. 16
HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD
CITY OF CAMPBELL, CALIFORNIA
After notification and public hearing as specified by law on the
City-initiated application to designate the southeasterly portion
of the Campbell Community Center (previous Campbell High School)
on property known as 1 W. Campbell Ave. as an Historic Landmark;
and after presentation by Planning Staff, and after testimony by
proponents and opponents, the hearing was closed. HPB 86-02
After due consideration of all evidence presented, the Historic
Preservation Board did find as follows:
1. That this site and its associated buildings reflect
special elements of the City's cultural, social, and
educational history serving as Campbell's only
secondary institution until after World War II.
2. That the buildings embody distinctive characteristics
of the Spanish colonial revival architecture and that
the materials and method of construction provide a
good example of craftsmanship and use of indigenous
materials; and
3. That this school site represents a notable work of
William H. Weeks, a renown California architect.
Based on the above findings, the Historic Preservation Board does
Hereby recommend that the Planning Commission and City Council take
action to designate portions of the Campbell Community Center as
an Historic Landmark in the City of Campbell.
