HPB Resolution No. 12 (2)RESOLiTTION N0. 12 HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD CITY OF CAMPBELL, CALIFORNIA After notification and public hearing as specified by law on the application of Mr. Doug Chapman on behalf of W. L. Errico and Associates for a landmark designation to be applied to the building located at 51 East Campbell Avenue, also known as the Old Campbell Grammar School, and after presentation by Staff, proponents and opponents, the hearing was closed (HPB 83-01). After due consideration of all evidence presented, the Historic Preservation Board did find as follows: 1. That the proposed landmark exemplifies or reflects special elements of the city's cultural, social, economic, aesthetic, or architectural history; or It is identified with persons or events significant in local, state or national history; or It embodies distinctive characteristics of a style, type, period, or method of construction, or is a valuable example of the use of indigenous materials or craftsmanship; or It is representative of the notable work of a builder, designer or architect. 2. The construction materials or engineering methods used in the proposed landmark are unusual or significant or uniquely effective; The overall effect of the design of the proposed landmark is beautiful, or its details and materials are beautiful, or unusual. 3. It materially benefits the historic character of the neighborhood; Its location represents an established and familiar visual feature of the neighborhood, community, or city; It is a geographically definable area, urban or rural, possessing a significant concentration or continuity of site, buildings, structures, or objects unified by past events, or aesthetically by plan of physical development. Based on the above findings, the Historic Preservation Board does hereby recommend that the Old Campbell Grammar School meets all the criteria listed above and should be designated as an historic landmark.
