BEING A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL CONGRATULATING
ECONOMY LUMBER, 2013 BUSINESS OF THE YEAR
WHEREAS, Economy Lumber was selected by the Campbell Chamber of Commerce as 2013
Business of the Year in recognition of many years of service to the Campbell community, and
will be honored at the annual "Celebrate Campbell" banquet on March 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Economy Lumber has provided building materials and service to the developers of
Santa Clara Valley since its San Jose opening in 1936; and
WHEREAS, in 1951, Economy Lumber expanded its business when it opened its Campbell
location and added Fred Saunders and Lewis Woodfill to oversee the Campbell operation; and
WHEREAS, Saunders, and Woodfill sold the business to their sons, John Saunders and Bill
Woodfill, in 1978, who have continued Economy Lumber's long tradition of providing quality
products and excellent customer service to local developers and the Campbell community; and
WHEREAS, Economy Lumber has continued to grow and flourish as a business through its
excellent service prdvided by dedicated employees and loyal patronage of customers; and
WHEREAS, Economy Lumber has supported the local community and works with local high
schools, little league organizations, schools and the Boy Scouts to discount materials for their
projects, and assists Eagle Scout candidates with advice and suggestions for their project; and
WHEREAS, John Saunders -has served on the City of Campbell's Economic Development
Committee providing feedback and economic information from a business perspective.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell
congratulate Economy Lumber on being named Campbell's 2013 Business of the Year and
recognize their valued service to the Campbell community and continued involvement in civic
endeavors.
