RESOLUTION AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY PLAN
WHEREAS, The City Manager is required by Section 2.12.030 of the Campbell Municipal
code to prepare and submit to the City Council recommendations for the reorganization
of offices, departments, and positions which are considered to be in the best interest of
efficient, effective and economical conduct of the municipal services provided by the City;
and
WHEREAS, Title 2, Section 2.16.020 of the Campbell Municipal Code provides that the
City Council may, from time to time, by resolution, change the compensation of
employees of said City, and may, by resolution, adopt salary and wage scales; and
WHEREAS, a review has been conducted; and
WHEREAS, an amendment to the current Classification and Salary Plan is needed to
meet the requirements of Municipal Code Section 2.12.030.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell
does hereby approve the new job description of Maintenance Worker I (Attachment B)
and Maintenance Worker II (Attachment C) as outlined in the Council Report.

CITY OF CAMPBELL
MAINTENANCE WORKER I
DEFINITION
This entry level classification performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the
maintenance of parks, grounds, trees, recreational facilities, public grounds,
storm sewers, sidewalks, medians, street signs and markings, and repair and
upkeep of streets. Operates maintenance and construction equipment; and
does related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Performs or learns to perform a variety of parks and streets maintenance tasks
including watering, mowing, edging, weeding, spraying, trimming, pruning,
planting and removing flowers, plants, trees and turf; maintenance and
reconstruction of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, pavement and
pavement markings; assists with the installation of park, street and recreation
related facilities; operates or is trained to operate park and street maintenance
equipment and motor vehicles such as dump trucks, water trucks,
backhoes/loaders, forklifts, sprayers, chippers, power mowers, edgers, hand
tools, rollers, asphalt breakers, airless and air operated paint machines, air
compressors, generators, hand tools and related equipment; performs routine
maintenance work in the care of tools and supplies; assists with the installation
and maintenance of traffic control and informational devices; may be required to
work weekends or holidays or in the event of emergencies; and performs other
related work as required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade plus
one year of experience in parks, landscape, street,
storm drain or other related maintenance work.
Knowledge of: Methods, techniques, parts, tools and materials
used in construction and maintenance of parks,
grounds, trees, streets, storm drains, and medians.
Ability to: Perform all essential functions of the job
assignment; may perform heavy labor; operate and
maintain a variety of hand, power tools and
equipment; to deal tactfully and courteously with
others; work in a team-based environment and
achieve common goals; understand and carry out
written and oral instructions; establish and maintain
effective working relationships and public relations.
Intermittently, sit while driving, operating equipment,
or completing forms/work papers; walk, stand for
extended periods of time and bend, stoop, reach
carry, crawl, climb, twist and reach while inspecting
or repairing, digging or clearing, use various tools
and equipment and lift as necessary to perform
assigned ~ duties; perform simple and power
grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation; lift
or carry weight of up to 50 pounds.
Possession of: Valid California Driver's License.

CITY OF CAMPBELL
MAINTENANCE WORKER II
DEFINITION
This is an intermediate-level classification within the Maintenance Worker series. This
class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I by the assignment of complex
duties that are performed with a greater degree of independence. Employees at this
level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations
arise. This classification performs a variety of skilled work in the maintenance of parks,
recreational facilities, public grounds, trees, streets, storm sewers, traffic control
devices and related facilities, medians, and does related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Each position in this classification has general and unique duties. Knowledge of the
principles, practices, methods, tools, materials and equipment used for each position is
required. Knowledge common to all positions includes:
• Safe work practices and policies.
Fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.
• Public works maintenance practices, materials, equipment and tools.
For the Parks Division:
Performs or learns to perform a variety of parks and grounds maintenance tasks

removing flowers, plants, trees and turf; assists with the installation of park and
recreation related facilities; operates or is trained to operate park maintenance

assignments; may prepare daily records and reports; may be required to work
weekends or holidays or in the event of emergencies; and performs other related work
as required.
Knowledge of: Basic landscape horticulture and arboriculture, such as
planUspecies identification, proper use of pesticides,
herbicides and fertilizers, automatic sprinkler systems and
pruning practices.
For the Streets Division:
Performs a variety of public right-of-way maintenance tasks involving the repair,
maintenance and reconstruction of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, pavement,
and related facilities; installs and maintains traffic control and informational devices;
signs and paint; monitors routine work performed by contract personnel; operates
maintenance and construction equipment and motor vehicles such as dump trucks,
water trucks, backhoes/loaders, forklifts, rollers, asphalt breakers, airless and air
operated .paint machines, air compressors, generators, hand tools and related
equipment; lead small work crews; organizes tools, equipment and material for daily
work assignments; may prepare daily records and reports; may be required to work
weekends and holidays or in the event of emergencies; and performs other related
duties as required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade plus three
years of experience pertorming work similar to a
Maintenance Worker I in grounds, landscape, streets, or
storm drain.
Ability to: Perform routine safety checks of vehicles and equipment;
assist in work required to maintain City in clean conditions;
explain City policies and maintain effective public relations;
establish and maintain effective working relationships,
including working with volunteers; lead a small crew;
represent the City in contacts with the community inquiring
about City services; properly refer complaints to supervisor;
communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in
writing; demonstrate and promote technical aptitude within
the assigned division; perform daily record keeping and
reporting; work in a team-based environment and achieve
common goals. Perform all of the essential functions of the
job assignment; Intermittently, sit while driving, operating
equipment, or completing forms/work papers; walk, stand
for extended periods of time and bend, stoop, reach, carry,
crawl, climb, twist and reach while inspecting or repairing,
digging or clearing, use various tools and equipment and
lift as necessary to perform assigned duties; perform
