RESOLUTION NO. 11948
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR TO SUBMIT VEHICLE
REGISTRATION FEE (VRF) PROGRAM GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR THE
CITYWIDE ITS ENHANCEMENTS PROJECT AND THE WINCHESTER BOULEVARD
ITS PHASE 2 PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has issued a call for
projects for the 2015/2016 Vehicle Registration Fee Intelligent Transportation Systems
(ITS) projects; and
WHEREAS, the VTA Board has made available a total of $3 million in Vehicle
Registration Fee (VRF) revenue to Intelligent Transportation System projects; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of this program area is to fund ITS projects primarily focused
on maintenance and operations of transportation technologies to improve operations
and enhance safety throughout Santa Clara County; and
WHEREAS, the minimum grant amount is $50,000, and the maximum is $500,000 for
these funds; and
WHEREAS, the Citywide ITS Enhancements Project would replace older video
detection systems, install communications equipment, and purchase and install traffic
signal equipment for various locations throughout the city; and
WHEREAS, the preliminary cost estimate to design and construct the Citywide ITS
Enhancements Project is $480,000; and
WHEREAS, the Winchester Boulevard ITS Phase 2 Project would replace older video
detection systems at six intersections; replace old copper interconnect cable between
Hacienda Avenue and Sunnyoaks Avenue; and, install new emergency vehicle
preemption equipment at Winchester/Hacienda and Winchester/Camden; and
WHEREAS, the preliminary cost estimate to design and construct the Winchester
Boulevard ITS Phase 2 Project is $210,000; and
WHEREAS, the VRF program requires no local matching funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Campbell
that the Public Works Director is hereby authorized to submit Vehicle Registration Fee
(VRF) Program grant applications for the Citywide ITS Enhancements Project and the
Winchester Boulevard ITS Phase 2 Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute
funding agreements for either project should the VTA award a VRF grant to the City for
either project.
