A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SANTA CLARA COUNTY'S
DESIGNATION AS A NATIONAL HERITAGE AREA
WHEREAS, on September 27, 2016, at the request of Supervisor Dave Cortese and
with approval of the Board of Supervisors, the County of Santa Clara launched a
mission to have Congress designate our region as a National Heritage Area; and
WHEREAS, National Heritage Areas are distinguished places designated by Congress
as having heritage resources and histories of national importance; and
WHEREAS, Santa Clara Valley's history of cultural diversity and pioneering innovations
made it once a world leader in agriculture and now in technology and commerce; and
WHEREAS, this heritage has greatly impacted the industry and culture of the nation;
and
WHEREAS, designation as a National Heritage Area would support the preservation of
our cultural and heritage resources and draw national attention to the vital role our
region played in our nation's history; and
' WHEREAS, designation would provide our citizens and others from across the country
an opportunity to discover both the traditional and contemporary contributions our
region makes to our national story; and
WHEREAS, the success of this endeavor requires the full support of the Couhty's cities.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell
declare our full and enthusiastic support for Santa Clara County's designation as a
National Heritage Area.
PASSED AND ADOPTED, this 6~h day of December, 2016 by the City Council of the
City of Campbell, California, as follows:
