A RESOLUTION OF THE CAMPBELL CITY COUNCIL HONORING
MICHAEL F. KOTOWSKI FOR HIS YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY
WHEREAS, on December 12, 2016, Councilmember and former Mayor Michael
('~Mike'~ F. Kotowski attended his last City Council meeting after a combined total of
seventeen years of dedicated service on the City Council;
WHEREAS, Mike was first elected to the City Council in 1983 where he served for nine
years before being re-elected to the Campbell City Council in 2008 and again in 2012;
WHEREAS, he served as the City's Mayor in 1986, 1990 and 2012;
WHEREAS, the Campbell Chamber of Commerce named him "Citizen of the Year" in
1982;
WHEREAS, he has held leadership positions in the League of California Cities; Prop 39
Citizens Bond Oversight Committee (Measure B); Prop 39 Citizens Bond Oversight
Committee (Measure H); Association of Bay Area Governments; West Valley Sanitation
District; and the West Valley Mayors and Managers;
WHEREAS, he has served as Chair of the City's Planning Commission, founding
Boardmember of the Campbell Historical Museum, and in 1979, served as Campbell
Chamber of Commerce President;
WHEREAS, Kotowski was a founder of the Highway 85 Task Force which was
instrumental in having Santa Clara County voters pass Measure A to construct Highway
85 which later led the drive for Measure B which supported new light rail service to
Campbell;
WHEREAS, passionate about youth issues and preserving Campbell's history, Mr.
Kotowski has been very supportive in reinstating the City's' Youth Commission, and
continues to be an active officer of Campbell's Early Settlers which holds an annual
community reunion each year on President's Day;
WHEREAS, to this day, he remains an active officer of the Campbell Veterans'
Memorial Foundation and volunteers his time towards planning and organizing
fundraising events in support of student scholarships and additional construction
enhancements for the memorial which honors American veterans;
WHEREAS, Mike obtained his AA in Arts and Humanities from Allan Hancock
Community College in Santa Maria, California, and combined BFA/MFA degrees from
San Jose State University; and
NVHEREAS, he is an avid runner and often competes in local races including Campbell's
very own annual Valentine and Oktoberfest Fun Runs, and oftentimes wins in his age
division.
NOd~V, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council and staff of the City of
Campbell express their deepest appreciation to Mike Kotowski for his years of public
service to the residents, businesses, and visitors of the City of Campbell, and wish him
well in the next phase of his life.
