A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL 65 (HILL)
' WHEREAS, existing law makes it an infraction to drink any alcoholic beverage while
driving a motor vehicle upon any highway; and
WHEREAS, California voters legalized the recreational use of marijuana in November
2016; and
WHEREAS, Senator Jerry Hill (D- San Mateo) and Assemblyman Evan Low (D-
Campbell) introduced Senate Bill 65 (SB 65) to address the use of marijuana while
driving; and
WHEREAS, SB 65 would expand current law to make driving or operating a vehicle,
boat, vessel, or aircraft while smoking or ingesting marijuana or marijuana products an
offense punishable as an infraction or a misdemeanor.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell
does hereby support SB 65 and urges the California State Legislature and the Governor
of California to sign this bill into law.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager
to communicate the City's position to the appropriate State legislative representative(s).
