A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ISSUE A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP) TO REPLACE THE CITY'S DATA
NETWORK SWITCHING EQUIPMENT, TO APPROVE AONE-TIME BUDGET ADJUSTMENT
FOR FUNDING IN THE CURRENT FISCAL YEAR, AND TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER
TO AWARD A CONTRACT
WHEREAS, the city's network switching equipment has reached end-of-life and
is in need of replacement; .
WHEREAS, all access to the Internet from city resources, Intranet and external
~ connections, including law enforcement resources are provided by network switching
equipment;
WHEREAS, the city is quickly adapting to Internet Cloud services, managed
services, mobile and IoT technologies that place higher demands on network switching
! equipment pertormance;
WHEREAS, external security threats exist to take advantage of vulnerabilities
found in older network switching equipment; and,
I; WHEREAS, staff has determined that a Request for Proposals (RFP) process is
the most effective process to use when selecting network switching equipment that
would provide the best value and benefit to the City,
WHEREAS, use of $150,000 in budgeted funds for this purpose of network
~ switch replacement was available in the last fiscal year (FY17) but never used. These
funds require aone-time budget adjustment to use in the current fiscal year (FY18).

i NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Campbell determines that it is in the best interests of the public to authorize the City
Manager to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) to replace the city's data network
~ switching equipment, to approve aone-time budget adjustment for funding in the current
fiscal year, and to authorize the City Manager to award a contract.
