A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
AUTHORIZING AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL
CONTROLLER CABINETS REPLACEMENT PROJECT 17-FF
WHEREAS, the Traffic Signal Controller Cabinets Replacement Project (Project) is
included in the City's Capital Improvement Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Project would replace existing Type M controller cabinets with new and
larger. Type P controller cabinets at six signalized intersections in Campbell; and
~ WHEREAS, the scope of this project will also include replacement of existing video
detection systems and the installation of new emergency vehicle preemption (EVP)
systems at these intersections; and
WHEREAS, the engineer's estimate with 10% contingencies is $225,500; and
WHEREAS, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) awarded the City a
$500,000 grant from VTA's Vehicle Registration Fee (VRF) Program for Campbell's
Citywide Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Enhancements Project 17-FF; and

WHEREAS, the Traffic Signal Controller Cabinet Replacements Project scope was
included in the VRF grant application and is therefore eligible for the VRF grant funds;

WHEREAS, staff recommends advertising this project under Project 17-FF to simplify
project accounting; and
WHEREAS, the project would be advertised as the Traffic Signal Controller Cabinets
Replacement Project 17-FF; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends authorizing the Public Works Director to solicit formal
bids and award the construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder in the amount
j not to exceed $205,000 and encumber a 10% contingency in an amount not to exceed
$20,500 for a total encumbrance not to exceed $225,500.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell
authorizes the Public Works Director to solicit formal bids for the construction of the
Controller Cabinets Replacement Project 17-FF in an amount not to exceed $205,000
and to encumber a 10% contingency not to exceed $20,500 for a total encumbrance of
$225,500 for the Traffic Signal Controller Cabinets Replacement Project 17-FF.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that should the apparent low bid exceed $225,500, the
City Council authorizes the Public Works Director to reject all bids, re-advertise for
formal .bids, and award the contract to the apparent low bidder for an amount not to
exceed 10% above the revised engineer's estimate.
