A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
APPROVING THE TRAIL ALIGNMENT FOR THE SAN TOMAS AQUINO CREEK TRAIL
IMPROVEMENT PROJECT 15-NN -REACHES 1 AND 2, AND DIRECT STAFF TO BEGIN
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW AND PRELIMINARY DESIGN AND TO SEEK FUNDING TO
IMPLEMENT THE PORTION OF THE ALIGNMENT BETWEEN WESTMONT AVE. AND SAN
TOMAS AQUINO ROAD.
WHEREAS, the San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail has been identified as a potential project in the
City's General Plan since 2002; and
WHEREAS, this project is funded by a combination of funds -Parkland Dedication Funds,
Transportation Development Act Grant funds, and a contribution from the City of San Jose; and
WHEREAS, project background, funding, area of study, potential trail alignment, definition of
trail segments, community input from two neighborhood meetings, and the refined conceptual
trail alignment have been presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission; and
WHEREAS, staff and Callander Associates (the City's consultant design team) conducted a
series of public outreach as part of a feasibility study; and
WHEREAS, findings from the feasibility study and data gathered by the public outreach process
were presented to the City Council during the June 20, 2017 regular meeting; and
WHEREAS, SCVWD has given its preliminary approval to the location of the proposed new
bridge. Furthermore, the removal of the existing bridge will no longer be a requirement for the
San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail Project; and
WHEREAS, the project budget is sufficient for conducting environmental studies, and
preliminary design for Reaches 1 and 2.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell hereby
approves the trail alignment along the top of bank of San Tomas Aquino Creek between
Westmont Avenue and San Tomas Aquino Road (bend) as proposed in the Feasibility Study
(Reaches 1 and 2); and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Campbell hereby directs staff
to begin environmental review and preliminary design for Reaches 1 and 2 and to seek funding
to implement the portion of alignment between Westmont Ave. and San Tomas Aquino Road
(Reaches 1 and 2).
