A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
AUTHORIZING THE CAMPBELL POLICE DEPARTMENT TO PURCHASE A DJI
MATRICE M30T DRONE AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT UTILIZING STATE
GRANT FUNDS FROM THE SUPPLEMENTAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES
FUND.
WHEREAS, The Campbell Police Department has operated a drone program
since 2018 and holds two FAA certificates of authorization; and
WHEREAS, The bell Police Department has used drones during shootings,
barricaded subjects, fleeing wanted persons, suicidal subjects, missing persons and other
situations; and
WHEREAS, The Campbell Police Department's UAS Program is the premier
drone program in the region; and
WHEREAS, The Campbell Police Department has made a concerted effort to
adopt technologies that improve efficiencies, increase public safety and solve crimes
while also balancing the public privacy concerns; and
WHEREAS, The Campbell Police Department looks to public safety solutions to
address the challenges of crime, population growth and staffing; and
WHEREAS, Drone as First Responder (DFR) program is one piece of a strategic
plan to address the public safety needs of the Campbell community into the future.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT .RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Campbell that the Campbell Police Department is hereby authorized to purchase a DJI
Matrice M30T drone and associated equipment utilizing state grant funds from the
Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund.
