A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
DECLARING THAT THE CITY OF CAMPBELL SHALL BE INCLUDED
WITHIN THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY OPEN SPACE AUTHORITY
WHEREAS, in Santa Clara County open space preservation and creation
of a greenbelt are immediate high priorities needed to counter the
continuing and serious conversion of such lands to urban uses, to preserve
the quality of life in the county, and to assist in the retention of
agricultural activities; and
WHEREAS, in order to deal in an expeditious manner with the current
serious loss of these properties, the county needs to develop and
implement a local funding program involving properties occupied for urban
purposes which give rise to the need for open space preservation that goes
significantly beyond current existing funding which is not ad3adequate to
resolve these losses; and
VZ1EREAS, it is in the public interest to allow the voters of Santa
Clara County to create the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority so that
local open space preservation and greenbel.ting decisions can be
implemented in a timely manner to provide for the acquisition and
maintenance of such properties; and
WHEREAS, the State Legislature has enacted Division 26 of the Public
Resources Code (Sections 35100-35185) (Statutes of 1989, Chapter 1287)
which authorizes the creation of the Santa Clara County Open Space
Authority, together with the ability to seek local voter approval for the
funding of same, in response to the foregoing legislative findings; and
WHF,'REAS, pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 35120, each city
situated within the jurisdiction of the County of Santa Clara, except
those areas presently within the boundaries of the Mid -Peninsula Regional
Open Space district, must affirmatively evidence its intent to be included
within the Authority's jurisdiction by way of the passage of a formal
resolution;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Campbell hereby declares that the City of Campbell shall be included
within the jurisdiction of the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority.
