A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE DONATION OF FUNDS FOR AVIVE
SOLUTIONS AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS (AEDs) FROM THE
CHIAN FAMILY AND DIRECTING THE FINANCE DIRECTOR TO MAKE THE
ASSOCIATED BUDGET ADJUSTMENT
WHEREAS, In October of 2022, the Campbell Police Department responded to a medical
emergency at the Campbell Community Center involving Ryan Chian, a 15-year-old
athlete practicing basketball with his teammates; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Chian collapsed due to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA); and
WHEREAS, The Life Guards and First responders involved, coupled with the Automated
External Defibrillator (AED), played a pivotal role in Ryan Chian's miraculous recovery;
and
WHEREAS, In an effort to update the City's AEDs that were at the end of their life cycle,
in January 2023, the City signed a contract with Avive Solutions, who manufactures state-
of-the-art AEDs; and
WHEREAS, On September 5th, 2023, the Police Department will deploy 30 Avive
Solutions AEDs throughout City facilities and in Police Department Vehicles; and
WHEREAS, In appreciation for saving their son's life, the Chian family wanted to make a
donation of AEDs to the City to help continue to save the lives of those in our community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Campbell
authorizes the City to accept a donation of $8,099.65 from the Chian Family to be used
towards the City's contract with Avive Solutions for the purchase of needed AEDs; and
directs the Finance Director to make the associated budget adjustment.
