BEING A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CAMPBELL COMMENDING
THE COUNTRY WOMAN'S CLUB OF CAMPBELL
FOR 100 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
AND THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, the Country Woman's Club of Campbell was established in 1905; and
WHEREAS, in their Articles of Incorporation, the Country Woman's Club of Campbell
stated that their purposes were to: Increase kindly fellowship: Encourage high thought
and free speech upon all matters of general interest: Foster worthy talent in our midst:
and, Aid community and educational projects such as a library and scholarships; and
WHEREAS, the Country Woman's Club of Campbell, through subscription and
fundraising, was able to purchase their own clubhouse in downtown Campbell; and
WHEREAS, the Country Woman's Club of Campbell established the first free library
in Campbell, housing it in their own clubhouse and paying the Librarian's salary for
many years, before turning the library over to the Santa Clara County Library system;
and
WHEREAS, the Country Woman's Club of Campbell established Campbell's first
museum, which has now become the Campbell Historical Museum and Ainsley House,
providing space in their own clubhouse until the museum outgrew the facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Country Woman's Club of Campbell has established an endowment
fund to ensure that annual academic, music, and art scholarships are provided to
Campbell Union High School District students; and
WHEREAS, the Country Woman's Club of Campbell successfully pledged $25,000 to
the newly renovated Heritage Theatre; and
WHEREAS, the Country Woman's Club of Campbell has had the pleasure of having
ten of their members be honored as Citizen of the Year by the Campbell Chamber of
Commerce.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Campbell hereby commend the Country Woman's Club of Campbell for 100 years of
service to the City of Campbell and surrounding community.
