RESOLUTION NO. 10519
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR TO SUBMIT
AN APPLICATION FOR SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL (SR2S)
FUNDS FOR THE POLLARD ROAD BIKE LANE PROJECT
WHEREAS, a significant number of Rolling Hills Middle School students walk or
ride bicycles on Pollard Road; and
WHEREAS, the Pollard Road Bike Lane Project involves the design and
construction of sidewalk and bicycles improvements, asphalt concrete conform work,
and curb ramp installations; and
WHEREAS, the preliminary cost estimate is $383,000 for the project; and
WHEREAS, the Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) grant program is a federally-
funded program administered by Caltrans to encourage construction of bicycle and
pedestrian safety and traffic calming projects; and
WHEREAS, the Project would encourage walking and bicycling along Pollard
Road and is therefore eligible for SR2S funding; and
WHEREAS, the ability to obtain SR2S funding approval is enhanced by
endorsement of the project by elected officials, school officials, and police departments;
and
WHEREAS, the SR2S grant program requires a ten percent local match or below
$20,000 each for the City of Campbell and Town of Los Gatos, respectively; and
WHEREAS, a cost-sharing agreement between the City of Campbell and the
Town of Los Gatos will be needed to document agency roles and responsibilities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Campbell that the Public Works Director is hereby authorized to execute and file a Safe
Routes to Schools grant application for funding under the Safe Routes to Schools Grant
Program in the amount of $383,000 for the Pollard Road Bike Lane Project and execute
a cost-sharing agreement with the Town of Los Gatos.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Campbell will provide about
$20,000 in local funds should the Safe Route to Schools Grant be awarded to the City
of Campbell.
