A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAMPBELL
AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR TO SUBMIT
AN APPLICATION FOR SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOLS (SR2S)
FUNDS FOR THE VIRGINIA A VENUE SIDEWALK IN-FILL PROJECT AND
HACIENDA A VENUEIVIRGINIA A VENUE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Virginia Avenue Sidewalk In-Fill Project (Project A) and Hacienda
Avenue/Virginia Avenue Improvement Project (Project B) entail the design and construction of
sidewalk improvements, asphalt concrete work, driveway construction, and curb ramp
installations; and
WHEREAS, the preliminary cost estimate is $517,000 for Project A and $198,000 for
Project B; and
WHEREAS, the Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S) grant program is a federally-funded
program administered by Caltrans to encourage construction of bicycle and pedestrian safety and
traffic calming projects; and
WHEREAS, the Project would encourage walking along Virginia A venue and IS
therefore eligible for SR2S funding; and
WHEREAS, the ability to obtain SR2S funding approval is enhanced by endorsement of
the project by elected officials, school officials, and police departments; and
WHEREAS, the SR2S grant program requires a ten percent local match or $50,000 for
Project A and $19,800 for Project B; and
WHEREAS, Project A would require an additional $17,000 in local funds to cover the
remainder of the project cost for a total of $67,000 in local funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Campbell
that the Public Works Director is hereby authorized to execute and file a Safe Routes to Schools
grant application for funding under the Safe Routes to Schools Grant Program in the amount of
$517,000 for the Virginia Avenue Sidewalk In-Fill Project and $198,000 for the Hacienda
Avenue/Virginia Avenue Improvement Project; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Campbell will provide $67,000 for
Project A and $19,800 for Project B in local funds should the Safe Route to Schools Grant be
awarded to the City of Campbell.
